Michael Joseph Giglio III

Michael J. Giglio, III, age 69, of Lecanto, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Michael was born June 4, 1952, in Miami Beach, Florida, to Amelia Lambriola Giglio and Michael J. Giglio, Jr., who both preceded him in death. Shortly after his birth, the family moved back to Long Island (Bayshore), New York, where he was "raised and corrupted".

He is survived by his loving wife, Nina Giglio; his first wife Carol Giglio, and their son Michael Vincent Giglio; two brothers, Jeff (Bonnie) Giglio and John Giglio; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends, and of course, Rusti and Butterscotch. Michael had struggled for years with a neuromuscular condition and, more recently, with lung cancer.

Michael was passionate about track and field sports in high school, especially the discus and shot put. He was incredibly proud of being the NJCAA record holder (1970). In 2018, he returned to throwing the discus by participating in the North Carolina Senior Games, qualifying and throwing in the State Finals only five months after having a pneumonectomy.

Michael received his Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. While he always dreamed of exploring space, he utilized his education to have an accomplished career as a construction administrator for various regional airports and other facilities. He also owned a successful consulting firm providing building forensic investigation services for many years.

Father and son shared a love of baseball, and both fondly remembered Michael Vincent's last season playing little-league ball. Michael assisted in coaching, and his consulting firm sponsored the team. The team won their league and several playoff games and headed toward the Little League World Series. Michael was a woodworker for most of his adult life, another passion the father and son shared. The two had frequent calls to discuss a project and compare products, techniques, and equipment. Michael thoroughly enjoyed seeing the projects his son would create.

After living in many cities and states across the U.S., Michael and Nina settled in Lecanto, Florida, in 2020. Though they could not travel as much as they had hoped, they were able to take several memorable R.V. trips that led to a list of places yet to be explored. The relocation to Florida also allowed Michael, his son, and Nina to fish together several times in the Gulf of Mexico, creating memories, taking pictures, and telling stories.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who touched their lives in the last weeks of Michael's life, including the nurses and staff of Bravera Seven Rivers Hospital – especially 2 South; S.E.T. Home Health Care; VITAS HealthCare – the In-Home Hospice team and the Inpatient unit.

At Michael’s request, no public funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in his memory. Cremation entrusted to Fero Funeral Home, Beverly Hills, FL.
