Michael Edward Boyer passed away at the age of seventy-seven on December fifteenth, 2023, at home under the care of VITAS Hospice. Michael was born in Washington D. C. on August thirty-first, 1946 to Wayne Haas Boyer and Agnes Louise Boyer. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers David, Gary, and Dennis. He is survived by his wife Carole Anne Russler, his brother Scott, his 2 stepdaughters Julie Anne Long and Jessica Annetti Russler, and his step-granddaughter Jordan Anesly Long.
Michael graduated from Charles Town High School in Jefferson County, West Virginia, class of 1965. He completed 3 semesters at Shepherd College. He joined the United States Army May twenty-one, 1968, and served as a Counter Intelligent Agent, earning the rank of sergeant until his honorable discharge on December thirtieth, 1971. Michael earned both the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. Following that, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency and served there until he retired. Throughout his career, he was appointed to various out-of-country assignments including Thailand, the Philippines, Greece, Germany, and England among others.
While assigned in Germany, he had several occasions to cross from West Berlin to East Berlin. He chipped out and removed a piece of the Berlin Wall. An East German Guard watched and said, "If everyone would do what you are doing, this wall would come down." The "chunk" of concrete is still at home. Upon from retiring from the Central Intelligence Agency, Michael resided in Jefferson County, West Virginia until he and Carole Anne moved to Citrus County, Florida, in 2012.
Michael was a member of many conservation organizations including the National Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Ducks Unlimited. He was a life member of the Moose and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), as well as a member of the American Legion, the Elks and the Eagles. Michael was an avid hunter and fisherman. While in on assignment in Germany he joined a contest hunting the native mouflon where he was awarded first prize. His latest acquisitions are an 8-foot alligator, a 10-foot alligator, and a Russian Boar.
Michael will be cremated and privately interred at Fero's Funeral Home.
