June Iris Newman, 98, of Inverness, FL peacefully passed away on January 30, 2021 at the Vitas Unit Inpatient Hospice in Lecanto, FL. She was born on February 16, 1922 in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania to the late Linwood and Virgie Ecker. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, Morris Ader, and her late husband of 15 years, Irving Newman.
June, a veteran, served during WWII. She joined the Women’s Army Corps, US Army in 1943 and served through 1945. She functioned as a cook and baker for US Army soldiers and German prisoners. It was during this time while serving her country that June met the first love of her life, and married Corporal Morris Ader.
June was a long-time resident of Beverly Hills, FL and a long-time member of the Congregation Beth Shalom, joining over 50 years ago when it was established.
June was a devoted mother and homemaker. She loved all animals, and loved to knit and crochet, bowl, play cards and games, and interact with the people who surrounded her. She was never one to hold back her true feelings, opinions and thoughts, and everyone who knew June embraced her for her frankness and candid approach to life, its joys, surprises, and challenges.
Those left to mourn June’s passing and cherish her memory are her two daughters, Ginger Keyser and her husband Edward, and Eileen Shellabarger and her husband Dennis. She is also survived by two grandsons, Damian Griffie and Daniel Griffie and his wife Mayumi.
The family expresses very sincere thanks to the staff at Highland Place who always made our loved one feel special. Additionally, the family wishes to extend their gratitude to Vitas Hospice for their exceptional support and care.
A private family graveside service and burial was held on February 2nd in the Garden of Mount Sinai at Fero Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Fero Funeral Home with Crematory.
