Andy graduated from the class of 1960 at Palm Beach High School. He worked for the Rivera Beach Fire Department until he decided to work for himself. Andy was born with a gift to be able to fix, create, build etc. just about anything. He was an electrician, plumber, mechanic, machinist, welder, marine fabricator but most of all he was a junk yard dog so to speak. His motto was, “I don’t cheat and steal, I just wheel and deal.” He would like to find deals on heavy equipment for cheap and resell for a profit. Or he would trade for work that needed to be done. However, he held on to a lot of stuff waiting for the right buyer or trader.
As a marine fabricator he was second to none. He would build large barges, airboats, halftracks, and anything else that needed to be welded. Some were for profit, and some were for friends because he loved to help people. All his builds were done not by a mechanical drawing but by creating it on the concrete shop floor with a steel chalk.
Airboats, hunting, fishing, and friends also took a special place in his life as well. With his skills he built a two-story house on the Withlacoochee River when he and Jackie Morris left the hustle and bustle of West Palm Beach. To see the workmanship of an idea that started on a piece of paper, or concrete floor, to a structure that they were proud of.
Andy has shared his life and love with Jackie Morris for the last 38 years. Jackie is a retired teacher and they had fun sharing their life together.
Andy was the son of the late Walter and Mickey Owens.
He is survived by his life partner Jackie Morris; Daughters Patty Owens (Chastity Lutton) and Roxanne Edenfield. Brothers Ken Owens (Libby), Richard Owens (June), Patrick Owens (Achaphorn) and sisters Helene Owens Walker and Alice Owens Stone (Joe); Great-grandsons Logan Reef Hernandez, Dillon Hagins and great-granddaughter Arianna Hagins.
