Donald lived life large, traveling the world twice over. Working for the Army & Air Force Exchange Services, he supported our troops at home and abroad.
In his early days he met a young woman, Lee Atkinson, in Vietnam. He made her his wife and her family his. At the end of a war, over time he got them out through incredible logistics. First Lee, then later her father, Thang Le. Then her sister (Hong {Henriette Lossing}). Last was Mom (Lang Duong) and sister (Nancy Le). Henriette escaped the country, and was later brought from Thailand. Years later Mom and Nancy were brought out through channels, being the first legal exits from Vietnam. He was able to get them all settled in our country while working abroad. I later married Henriette and I am thankful for his efforts.
Moving, protecting and supporting this family has been one of Don’s greatest achievements. They have all become good Americans and true immigrants.
Time has diminished the family.
Don is survived by his wife Lee Atkinson, brother Charles Atkinson and his wife Phyllis, sister and brother in law Henriette and Dan Lossing. He will be greatly missed and warmly received.
A visitation for Donald Atkinson will be held on Friday October 4, 2024 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Fero Funeral Home & Life Celebration Center, 5955 N. Lecanto Hwy., Beverly Hills, FL 34465.
