Debra was born June 30, 1949 in Princeton, WV to Robert and Ozell (Bird) Pennington. She graduated from Concord College and went on to have a career in counseling and education. She married her husband of 43 years, Thomas, on August 31, 1975. They lived abroad in Iran prior to moving to New Boston, NH where they raised their two children. She proudly completed her graduate degree receiving her Masters in Education in 2005.
She was an active member of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary in Calabash, NC for many years. She enjoyed fundraising and supporting many non-profit organizations. In addition to her volunteer work, Debra always had an open door, an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on for family and friends.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ozell Pennington and sister Patricia Bailes.
Debra is survived by her husband, Thomas of Beverly Hills, FL, her daughter Kathleen and her fiancé Carl of Manchester, NH, son Daniel and his wife Jennifer of New Boston, NH, two granddaughters Rory and Ruby of New Boston, brother Sandy and his wife Jolene of Princeton, WV, sisters Peg of Eden, NC and Connie and her husband Joe of Lewisburg, WV, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Molly.
Most know that Deb was an avid fan of music and loved to sing. She would have wanted you to listen to Vince Gill “Go Rest High on That Mountain”, close your eyes and remember her.
A memorial service will be determined at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to: Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center, 421 Highway 57 South Little River, SC 29566
