David S. Holdren, Sr., 94, of Citrus Springs, FL, went to be with our Lord on March 6, 2023. He was born in Elkhart, IN on April 18, 1928 to Oscar and Veletta Holdren. He spent 4 years in the US Navy and then went on to work at American Electric Power as a Plant Supervisor. He was married to the love of his life, Stella M. Holdren, for 59 years.
David was a member of The American Legion and Four Lakes Country Club in Edwardsburg, MI. He also belonged to the South Bend Shriners and the Masonic Temple. In Florida he was a member of the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Inglis AMvets and the Dunnellon Moose Lodge 2028 and Honored Veterans.
Dave loved to golf and enjoyed doing so with the company of his friends. Driving cross country to see all that he could with his wife and family was a yearly vacation time and when asked what he wanted to do for his 90th birthday replied “Go Kayaking”. And he did. He very much was an adventurous sole.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his brothers, Arch Holdren and Tom Holdren of Mishawaka, IN; daughter, Judith Rymers, of Citrus Springs, FL and David S. Holdren Jr./Angie Holdren of Conyers, GA; his grandchildren, Jacqueline/Mike Shepherd, G ranger, IN, Nathan/Anne Rodick, Mishawaka, IN and Jamie Holdren, Erin Davies and Holly Atkins of Portland, OR. He was proud to be the great grandfather of 6 children.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Stella M. Holdren, brothers Harold and Jack Holdren and a grandson Donald (Dutch) Rodick.
A memorial service will be held at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Citrus Springs, FL, on March 25, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. A luncheon will follow at the Dunnellon Moose Lodge 2308. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s would be appreciated.
