On April 11,1954 he married Betty Beryle Wanzor from Mountain View, Ok at the 1st Methodist Church in Carnegie, OK. This union was blessed with two children. They lived in Carnegie for 5 years. In 1958, they moved to Oklahoma City, Ok. They immediately joined St. John’s Methodist Church. In 1988, they joined Putnam City Methodist. Waldo accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior when he was a young teen and faithfully attended the Methodist Church his entire life. He served in many capacities but loved singing in the choir. He also attended “Share Group” for over 50 years.
Waldo attended school in Lookeba, OK until his junior year, where he was active in the 4H Club. His family then moved to Norman, OK where he graduated from Norman Highschool. In 1950, he joined the Army where he served for 2 years. While in the Army, he attended Radar Maintenance School at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. In 1953 he went to Oklahoma Central University for Television Repair School.
Waldo began his working career building a grain elevator in Alva, OK until he was sent to the Army. In 1953, he moved to Carnegie, OK and worked at Kaufman Electric as a television repairman. In 1958 they moved to Oklahoma City, OK for Waldo to work at the Civic Aeronautics Administration (which later became the Federal Aviation Administration) as an Electronics Tech. In 1960, he became an instructor in the Electro-mechanical unit. He later became an Electrical Engineer and worked as an instructor and course developer until he retired in 1988. He continued working for 3 more years as a government contractor.
Waldo loved his time building a cabin at Lake Eufaula which his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren still enjoy to this day. He also enjoyed traveling with a travel trailer for many years until he found joy in planning trips with his wife Betty for the Putnam City Retiree’s Travel Club. Everyone loved Waldo and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, his sister Carrie Overholster (Meryl), sister Ester Hobbs (Charlie), sister Dorothy Felden (Jack), sister Pauline (Charlie) and brother Jim Warren (Ruby).
Waldo is survived by his son Randy Warren (Kim), daughter Kathy Lester (Bruce), grandchildren Matt Warren (Tay), Katy Shadid (Chris), Betsy Bridges (Barry), Alli Homan (Jordan), Amy Lester, great grandchildren Micah, Noelle, Layla, Henry, Jack, Titus, Daniel, Samuel, Heidi, Halston and numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorials can be made in Waldo’s name to the Putnam City Methodist Church.
Services will be 2pm Monday at Bill Merritt Funeral Service with interment to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
