Shortly after she was born, her family moved to Oklahoma City where Mary would live the rest of her life. She met her high school sweetheart, John, during their years at Central High School in Oklahoma City. The two were married in 1956 at age 19. Before they got married, John had volunteered for the draft shortly after graduating high school and was serving in the Army. During their second year of marriage, John was deployed to Germany where they had to live apart while Mary lived with her mother in Oklahoma City during which time she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. They started their family upon John’s return from Germany when he concluded his military service. They had their first child, Don in 1959, followed by Denise in 1960, and Darrin in 1970. Mary was a loving mother, kind and compassionate to everyone. She valued her faith and had active roles in her church. She served several years in the children’s ministry teaching 4-year olds on Sunday mornings. Her family was very special to her. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings for holidays and special occasions. She was a servant and always the last one to sit down at the table before we ate. In her later years she enjoyed cooking with her daughter for youth summer camps at Falls Creek. She was an excellent seamstress and made many pieces of clothing for her children while they were growing up. Mary is survived by her loving husband John, who provided her full daily care over the last several years; her 3 children;1 daughter-in-law and 2 sons in-law. She had eight grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren as well as 1 brother and 2 sisters-in-law. She will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to INTEGRIS Hospice House, 5710 NW 130th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73142.
