After the family moved to Oklahoma City when he was a child, Martin began attending school in the Putnam City school district. This is where he met the love of his life, Sherlyn Sue Hawkins, whom he married on June 12, 1976. They have one daughter.
Martin graduated from Putnam City West in 1971, then went on to attend Oklahoma State University, where he graduated with his Associate Degree in Architectural Engineering. After some time working in construction and the oil field, Martin began working for Sam’s Club in 1986, where he stayed for 32 years before retiring in 2017.
After a long fight with cancer, on May 24, 2023, Martin passed away comfortably in his home of 47 years. He was 71 years old. Martin is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Henry and Thelma ‘Ruth’ Johnson; his sister, Carnelia ‘Corny’ Ruth Humphries; and his niece, Ruby Faith Ross.
