Martha Ann Pope

Martha Ann Riggins Pope passed away November 14, 2022. Martha Ann was born May 1, 1925, in Comanche, Oklahoma to Robert E. and Jimmie Riggins, their third of four daughters. She attended Vanoss High School, East Central State College, Oklahoma University, and spent two summers at the University of Oklahoma Biological Station. Martha Ann received her Masters Degree in 1953. In 1954 she married Donald M. Pope, who preceded her in death in 2003. They had three sons and two daughters. She was very proud of all of their children, including that three sons and three grandsons are Eagle Scouts, and one daughter and three granddaughters earned the First Class Scout/Gold Award. Beyond family her interests were reading, sewing and puzzles. She retired from teaching in 1986 having taught science, math and Latin for thirty-three years, mostly in Tulsa and at Putnam City High School. After retiring she and Donald traveled some, and enjoyed being members of the ONGOERS Club. She has been a member of Putnam City United Methodist Church since 1963 where she served as librarian for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Abigail Pope, and her 3 sisters: Bobbie Riggins, Billie Ruth Lycan, and Jimmie Phillips. Survivors include her five children: Reese Pope and wife Gerri, Becky Lewis and husband Rick, Brad Pope and wife Tabitha, Phyllis Juenger and husband Bill, and Jim Pope; seven grandchildren: Ryan and Jonathan Pope, Henry Lewis, Grace Lewis Gupta, Katelyn Juenger Barkalow, Jessica Juenger Nichols, and Gabriel Pope; four great grandchildren: Evelyn and Lillian Pope, Anora Gupta, and Mayzie Nichols; niece Sharon Kay Phillips and nephew John Phillips; and through marriage Vivian, Mike, Andy and Lane Pope and their families. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday November 19, 2022, at Bill Merritt Funeral Home with interment following at Resurrection Cemetery.
