M. Darlene Hunsaker was born on June 11, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Vivian Kile. She grew up a spunky little girl and had many stories to tell. In 1960, she was joined in marriage with J. Leo Hunsaker. Together they raised four children: Floyd, Darla, Sonny, and Fred.
Her greatest joy was her family. She truly loved loving others, and she did it well. From cooking to taking care of her grandchildren to volunteering at her church, she was always ready and willing to be there for the people she loved. She was a devoted member of Springdale Baptist Church and was always excited to share her faith with others. Darlene never met a stranger. She embraced others warmly to make them feel welcome and as part of her family from the moment they met. She was definitely a “hugger.” Her greatest accomplishment was her grandchildren. She loved them all so much with unconditional love. She never missed a sports game, dance competition, birthday, school play, or any activity that her grandchildren were involved in. She enjoyed spending every moment she could with them.
Another thing she loved was OU football. She was a dedicated OU Sooner fan. Never would she let a “Boomer...” go without a resounding “Sooner!” She enjoyed getting decked out in her Sooner gear to go cheer her team on every chance she had. She was a cheerleader at heart, whether it be for her family or her favorite team, she was always the number one fan.
Darlene was preceded in death by her mother Vivian Kile and husband J. Leo Hunsaker. She is survived by her children Floyd Hunsaker and wife Melissa Hunsaker, Darla Shera and husband Rob Shera, Sonny Hunsaker, and Fred Hunsaker; grandchildren Rachael Hensley, Aaron Hunsaker, Stephanie Wilson, Daniel Hunsaker, Courtney Shera, and Kaci Shera; and great grandchildren Greenlea, Gemma, and Augustine Wilson and Vivian and Daphne Hensley.
Darlene passed away peacefully at home March 15, 2025. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
