Joseph Anthony Barter, Sr., age 67, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024. He was born March 24, 1957 in Bristow, Oklahoma to John and Elizabeth (Helton) Barter. Joe grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Putnam City High School. He then joined the United States Army and served in Korea and was honorably discharged on February 6, 1976. On August 6, 1976, Joe married his soul mate and best friend, Debra Sue Barter. They enjoyed 42 years of love and laughter until her death in 2018. Joe worked various jobs, including the oil field and heat and air, before finding his passion. He worked for Union Local 124 as a stainless-steel metal fabricator and retired in 2020 after over 30 years. Joe loved his family unconditionally and spending time with them was his greatest joy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and anything OU. Joe was onery, stubborn, and prideful but had the biggest heart and loved with all he had. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Debra Sue Barter; daughter, Mindy Sue Barter; and brother, William E. Burchfiel (Eddie).
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Joe Jr. and Stephanie Barter, and Jake Barter; grandchildren, Jerek Barter and Jaden Barter; brother and sister-in-law, John and Penny Barter; brothers-in-law, Craig Thummel, Alan Thummel and wife Karen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
A Celebration of Joe’s life will be 10am Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service with inurnment at 4pm at Frederick Cemetery.
