Jewell Miner Williams was born June 28, 1929, in Savanna, Oklahoma, to Bertie Bond and James Miner, Sr. She was one of 9 children. She grew up on the family farm in Savanna, OK, where she attended school. She married Wendell Williams on January 3, 1948. They were married over 50 years living much of their life in McAlester, OK. To this union 2 children were born: Gwen and Lewis. She was employed many years at Elsing's Manufacturing as a clothing designer until it closed business, and later worked as an administrative assistant for Oklahoma State Industries in Stringtown, OK, before her retirement. After being widowed she moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to family. She enjoyed being with her family and reading.
Jewell is predeceased by her husband Wendell Williams and daughter Gwen Angilan, her parents Bertie and James Miner, Sr., sisters Ola Mae Shields, Dorothy Doyal, Lena Bigelow, Peggy Beard, brothers James Miner, Jr., and George Miner.
She is survived by her son Lewis Williams and wife Debbie, granddaughter Tracy Shimanek, grandson Jason Angilan and wife Courtney, and granddaughter Serena Freeberg and husband Ian, and 5 great-grandchildren, sister B Coleman and husband Carrol and brother Walter Miner and wife Opal, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present for visitation at Bill Merritt Funeral Services, Bethany, Oklahoma, Friday, November 1, 2013, from 6-8pm. Graveside services will be at Oakhill Cemetery, McAlester, Oklahoma, at 11am Saturday, November 2, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jacob's Cupboard, P.O. Box 22141, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
