Evelyn Buffington

Evelyn, 96, of Bethany/Warr Acres from 1977 to 2013, died peacefully in her sleep in Lewisville, Texas. Born in July, 1921 in Pennsylvania, she is survived by two daughters; Susan Bridges and Jacqueline Ralstin, stepson Phillip Buffington and stepdaughter Penny Olivier, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition, there are at least 10 grandchildren, 20 great and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two of her children and all five of her siblings. She was also blessed to experience the bond of friendship with Richard and Brenda Abakah who called her Mama B and John (Johnny) McMilin who called her Miss B, throughout her years in Oklahoma. Evelyn was an avid reader with over 7000 books on many different subjects; fiction and non-fiction. She loved to dance - travel the United States – go to plays and musicals – decorate her home - cook and entertain – collect dishes; along with shot glasses and magnets from every State she visited. Evelyn worked in the trucking business as a rate clerk and dispatcher, including over 25 years with Allied Van Lines in Oklahoma City, at the time of her retirement.She was still wallpapering (a skill she learned from her Mother Mattie) and painting ceilings at age 86!Although there was no “formal training”; Evelyn has a plaque that was presented to her by a group of friends for her Gourmet cooking skills. She prepared seven course meals for groups of 18 at her home and also prepared a seven course meal for 12 at the lake, which was quite a feat, because it had to be transported (food and dishes, etc.) to another state, where she only had one refrigerator and no “running” water. This seven course dinner was also a “sit down” dinner, but with lawn chairs, TV trays and a picnic table! Her credo was to “Laugh every day to stay Happy!” Services will be held at the Bill Merritt Funeral Home in Bethany. Visitation will be at 10am prior to the 12pm funeral service on Thursday, January 4, 2018. Burial will immediately follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
