Eduard “Ed” Que Tan Senior passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at the age of 83. A steadfast man of God, Ed’s battle with serious health issues in recent years displayed his courage, consistent testimony of faith, and love for his family that prolonged all prediction and kept him lighthearted and strong until the end. Ed was at his home at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, surrounded by love with his wife, Noni, and their 7 children.
Born in Jolo, Sulu, Philippines on August 30, 1938 to father, Juancho; and mother, Sing Hua Que. At the age of 10, his father, Juancho passed, obliging him to become the caretaker of his family. As the eldest child, he started his first business selling his mother’s pastries in the streets of his neighborhood. This transitioned to a watchmaking cart and eventually multiple store locations throughout the Philippines.
Ed would meet the love of his life, Noni as teenagers at a fabric store in Jolo, Philippines and attended the same church together. They have been soulmates ever since and shared 60 years of marriage.
Always ambitious, Ed decided to risk it all to move his entire family of 9 to a unfamiliar, new country to pursue the American dream. He found a way to partner with a man in this strange land and opened his first watch store in San Francisco, California. Ambition and faith favored him, and the store expanded to a new, larger, and better location. But excitement would quickly turn into fear as the trusted partner would give him an ultimatum: Hand the store solely over to me or I will have you and your entire family deported back to the Philippines. The choice was obvious: Go back to the Philippines with nothing or stay in America with nothing. This tested their faith and resolve but would also strengthen it as Ed would find opportunity in a jewelry store in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Here he would eventually develop roots and community and live out his life achieving that American dream with all 9 family members, 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his spouse, Noni; three sons, Jaime (Nancy), Jason, Eduard Jr; four daughters, Cynthia (Curt), Myrna (Rhomy), Christina, Myra (Stephen). As well as younger brothers, Robert and Alfred.
