Chrystal Venus Matthews, 92, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born December 7, 1919 in a farm house on Highway 20 in Rogers County, Oklahoma, about a mile west of the “Round Mound” and the Verdigris River. She homeschooled with her mother Venus, attended North Limestone School and graduated from Claremore High School in 1940. During World War II she worked at Douglas Aircraft Company in Tulsa. In 1950 she moved to Oklahoma City where she worked for 47 years at Tinker Air Force Base in communications, starting out as a “key punch operator”. She was never married but always considered her niece and nephews and their children and grandchildren to be like her own children. She always had a beautiful smile. She was truly filled with “the fruit of the Spirit”: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Chrystal was preceded in death by her parents, William Leroy “Will” Matthews, Sr. and Venus Amelia Garner Matthews, her brother, Bill Matthews, and brother-in-law, James B. Battle.
She is survived by her sister, Ellen Matthews Battle, sister-in-law Gerry Matthews, and many nieces and nephews.
