Anthony William Smith

Bethany resident, Anthony “Tony” William Smith, age 38, passed away on August 17, 2021. Anthony was born September 16, 1982 in Waterloo, Iowa to Barbara J. Hodges (Smith). After graduating from high school, he went on to receive many mechanic certificates in power generation and vehicle recovery. Anthony joined the United States Army on March 19, 2003, serving 2 tours in Iraq. He was honorably discharged on August 14, 2008 and made his home in Bethany. Anthony married Joleen (Lock) Smith on March 17, 2017. There were many things that Anthony enjoyed throughout his life, however family was the most important. He loved to cook, loved music and playing his guitar, working on cars (especially his RX7), and spending time with his children. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend who will be deeply and forever missed. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Madalin Smith; grandmother, Vella Smith; and uncle, Greg Huffman. He is survived by his wife, Joleen Smith; children, Samantha Smith and Evelyn Smith; mother, Barbara Hodges (Smith); siblings, Samuel and Sydney Hodges; grandparents, Phil and Brenda Smith; aunt, Gail Huffman (Smith); cousins, Jillian Koblish (Adams) and John Huffman; as well as many friends. A Celebration of Anthony’s life will be held 3pm Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service with military honors rendered by the United States Army.
