I’ve known Kent for over thirty years and he was one of my best friends. WhenI think of Kent I have always said he was a man with great integrity and loved his family and friends.
I so much enjoyed our friendship over the years and loosing Kent has made me realize we are not promised tomorrow.
I’m saddened of the loss but I’m very thankful my friend is no longer in pain but waiting on us in heaven.
Thank you Kent for making me a better person through knowing you my friend.

I was in sales in the oilfield and called on Kent. He was always kind and generous with his time to allow me to do my job.  His legacy lives on of how to be a great person and a professional    Thank you Kent, rest in peace.  

Prayers to the Rogers family. I am deeply saddened to hear of Kent’s passing. I had the honor of working with him early in my career. He was always a kind and passionate man who would always take time to visit with me and others.

He had answers for the questions and yeah, we knew what we were doing.  But even Kent couldn’t take it too long because Bill was in such obvious distress.  Kent finally hollered out April Fools and Bill relaxed and then threatened to accept the letter. Kent and Tresa obviously had a strong marriage.  She followed him from OKC, to New Orleans, to Houston, to South America, on to California, back to Houston, off to Denver and then back to Houston again.  They had 3 boys along the way.  Whenever Kent talked about his family, you could hear the love and respect for Tresa and the pride in his boys.  I think if you can handle vampire bats in the attic, you can handle just about anything.   Kent was a great engineer, and his ability to connect with people on a personal level made him a natural leader.  People wanted to follow Kent.  There’s a leadership meme about the shadow a leader casts and the number of people he touches with that shadow.  That wasn’t Kent’s style.  His style was more like a beacon of light, no shadows from him.  His light showed the way and the warmth that generated from that light made us all feel comfortable and content, like old cats and dogs lying in the sun.  Kind of makes me think of the Sunday school song, “this little Light of Mine”.  Kent let his light shine and we were all touched by it and him.  RIP my old friend, your work here is done.  It’s time for the rest of us to let our own little light shine and light the path for others.  Thank you for your friendship and the example you set.


He stepped out in front of an 18 wheeler, and it smashed him flatter than a pancake.  By this time Kent was beside himself with grief and several of us had gathered around because of the commotion.  Then Kent had presence of mind to ask Charlie why Rasmus was in Mississippi with Charlie’s wife.  “Oh, they go there all the time” said Charlie.  Wait, Wait, Wait…  Then we found out that all the many times Kent was inquiring about Rasmus the tool hand, Charlie was telling him about Rasmus his dog. Knowing Kent for over 40 years, I have so many great memories; hosting a party on the Huntington Beach Platform for 75 different State and local agencies when Torch first moved to California, bringing him back to Houston to lead Torch Operating Company…  But another story I want to share today is the mischievous side of Kent Rogers.  This story also takes place at Transco, on the first day of April.  Kent walks into my office and suggests that we quit.  What?  Let’s play an April Fool’s joke on Bill (Bill Picquet, our boss).  Oh, he’ll never fall for it, he’ll see right through it.  But Kent was persuasive and so we wrote up a resignation letter saying we were quitting to start our own consulting company.  Losing both of us at the same time would have been a major jolt to the company.  We gave the resignation letter to one of our 2 admins to type up so it would look official.  Unfortunately, she broke down in tears, and started blubbering “you can’t quit”… and we nearly tossed in the towel before we even got to Bill.  Luckily, admin #2, Jessie (the future Mrs. Bill Picquet) caught on right away and calmed her down.  We walked into Bill’s office, gave him the letter, and then watched as all emotion drained from his face as he read it.  He gulped some coffee, and stammered a couple of questions and I was ready to let the poor guy off the hook.  But not my impish friend.  Bill had taken the bait, hook, line and sinker and Kent was playing it out.  (continued...)

My name is Randy Bailey.  I knew Kent since 1981.  I’d heard about him a couple of years before that.  We were both young engineers at Conoco; he was in New Orleans, and I was in Lafayette.  I thought I was doing some pretty good work out of Lafayette, but the company buzz was all about the work this Kent Rogers guy was doing out of New Orleans at Grand Isle 43AA.  Well, that bruised the old ego a little bit, but what I didn’t know until 1981, was what a good guy Kent Rogers really was.  In 1981, Bill Picquet, my old supervisor out of Lafayette, recruited both Kent and I to work for him at Transco Exploration Company in Houston.  And over the next 40 plus years, it seems that at least 2 of us worked together at the same company, and sometimes it was all 3.  As I said, Kent was a Good Guy.  He always got to know people on a personal level, and would always ask about friends and family members.  Most conversations with him started off with a question on how everybody was doing.  My grandson Scott was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor before his second birthday and the doctors gave him just a few months to live.  They were wrong, Scott is 17 now, and while most of my friends kind of forgot about Scott’s ordeal, Kent always asked about Scott.  Always.  At least one time, Kent’s connection on a personal level caused a little confusion.   In this instance, a salesman, Charlie, called on us at Transco in Houston.  From his time in New Orleans, Kent knew one of their tool hands out of New Orleans, named Rasmus.  So every time Charlie would call on us, Kent would inquire about Rasmus.  And Ramus was always doing fine until one day Charlie had to tell Kent that Rasmus had died.  “That’s terrible said Kent”  “How did that happen”.  And Charlie told Kent that Ramus got hit by a truck.  “Hit by a truck OMG.”  Yeah, said Charlie, he was walking along the highway with my wife at our place up in Mississippi.  (continued...)

Worked with Kent at Ultra Petroleum. I'd like to say I was his favorite IT Guy.  Kent and I would always chat about cars and watches.  When he bought his red Maserati, he gave me a ride in it and took me to lunch.  I will always remember that.  Rest in Peace.
