Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, sister Leticia Stevens and survived by brother William (Bill) Longley and his wife Cathy, Son James (Steve) and his wife Karen A. McAuley, Grandson Matthew McAuley and his wife Shannon and a blended family of six additional grandchildren & seven great-grandchildren.
Sarah attended Harding College (now Harding University) and graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and was a long time educator, retiring as a Professor of Psychology at the University of Central Arkansas. She was gifted with a remarkable soprano voice and also enjoyed performing in theatrical productions. Her amazing life included singing on-stage with Elvis in 1955's White River Water Carnival and with Marty Robbins as the "Discovery of the Week" in Nashville. In her first year of teaching, at North Little Rock 4th St. Junior High, she taught future Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
After marrying James A. McAuley, the couple moved to Little Rock Arkansas where their son James (Steve) was born. They divorced and Sarah was forced to raise her son as a single mother. She attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she obtained her Master's degree. Moving with her son to Conway Arkansas and started her long teaching career there. Upon her retirement Sarah moved to Garland, Texas to be closer to her family and assist in raising her grandson Matthew. Sarah eventually settled into Concordia senior living in Bella Vista Arkansas where she made many wonderful friends and enjoyed reading (averaging a book a day) and crossword puzzles.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 7 at 1:00pm at Concordia of Bella Vista, 1 Concordia Drive, Bella Vista, AR 72715. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter
