She attended school in Lisbon and Graduated from Lisbon High School. In 1959 she married Harry Leslie Newton at the First Methodist Church in Lisbon, ND. Shortly thereafter they moved to Fargo, ND and remained there for two years while her husband attended NDSU to complete his degree in pharmacy and welcoming the birth of their first child. They moved to Morris, MN until 1965. When they moved to Detroit Lakes, they completed their family, and settled there for 44 years. In 2009 they moved to Bella Vista, AR and retired there.
Karen chose as her primary life role to be a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She took great pride in each of her children and grandchildren. They brought her much joy in life. Her faith in God and her Savior Jesus Christ brought her peace and contentment.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing with her grandchildren and a highlight in her life was a wonderful trip to Europe in 2008.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-in-law, Harold “Chuck” Leonard.
She is survived by her husband, Harry with whom she shared 51 happy years of marriage, and her four daughters; Kellie and her husband Larry Remmen of Detroit Lakes, MN, Jill and her husband Darrell Lehmann of Litchfield, MN, Rebecca and her husband Ken Kendall of Bella Vista, AR, and Lesli and her husband Nate Ossenfort of Bella Vista, AR. Six grandchildren, two sisters Patricia Leonard and Kathleen and husband Roger Strander, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 7th at 2:00 pm in the Mildred E. Cooper Memorial Chapel, Bella Vista, AR, with Dr. Peter Marshall officiating.
Visitation to be private.
A future Memorial Service will be held, May 14th, 2011 at the Community Alliance Church, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota with Pastor Paul McKibben officiating.
