James “JR” R. Campbell, Jr., 79, passed away on June 24, 2023 in Rogers. He was born on March 15, 1944, in Sullivan, Indiana to the late James R. Campbell, Sr. and Winifred Jean Phillippe. He was the loving husband of Carolynn (Hunt) Campbell for 58 years and a loving, supportive father to his only child Natalie.
JR was an Air Force Veteran and fought in Vietnam. His father was a General in the Army and was in Vietnam at the same time. They were able to see each other while there, when his father arranged for a helicopter to pick JR up and bring him to his father’s base.
JR moved his family in 1978 to Arkansas to begin his career at Walmart and worked his way up from store management to executive management in the 20+ years he devoted to Walmart. He held many positions throughout his career such as Buyer, DMM, VP, President and retired as Executive President of Global Sourcing in 2000. He was given the opportunity to move his family to Hong Kong in 1985-88 to run their import office.
JR was a good man with a generous heart. He was a man of few words, but you always knew where you stood with him. He took everything in stride. “It is what it is” was his favorite saying.
His favorite pastimes were playing golf, reading books, sitting on the deck at their house on the lake and of course drinking Budweiser.
JR was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bill Campbell, and Robert Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Carolynn of Centerton; daughter, Natalie of Bentonville; sisters, Judy Thais, Kris Stephens, and Kathy Wolfe all of Indiana; 2 beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Abby; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be on Thursday at 10am in Callison-Lough Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.
