Joe Alvin Dutton, 84, of Belton, MO passed away Dec. 31, 2016 at Kansas City Hospice House after suffering from complications of pneumonia. Memorial Visitation 5 - 7 pm, Fri. Jan. 6, 2017 at McGilley & George Funeral Home 611 Chestnut St., Belton.
Joe was born on Nov. 25, 1932 in Dutton, AR to Emmet and Emma (Cornett) Dutton. Joe left Arkansas to join the Army, where he earned his GED. After moving to the Kansas City area, he met and married Barbara Tennison and began life here. He spent his career as a mechanic on large equipment, retiring from Kansas City Parks & Rec. Dept. Joe liked being outdoors and enjoyed boating, fishing and camping, but his passion was motor sports. Joe enjoyed motorcycling of all kinds all of his life. He loved drag racing, as a participant and spectator. One of his favorite things was helping son-in-law Jim with his drag racing hobby. It became a family affair when Joe’s grandson’s started racing too. They spent many hours preparing cars and equipment for race weekends that would many times take the whole family to out of town race tracks. For them, this was the best quality time to be had. Joe also enjoyed tinkering with and driving his pride and joy, an original condition 1972 Chevy Cheyenne "Longhorn Edition" truck.
Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara; daughter Valerie (Jim) Jones; grandsons, Brandon & Tanner; brother, Arthur Clay Dutton; sister’s, Betty Joyce Ayers and Billie Jean Gibson. Joe was a hardworking, devoted family man that will be missed.
