Raymore, MO – Gale C. Hankins, 91, died peacefully with his family by his side. Gale was born February 10, 1933, in Belton, MO. Gale was active in 4H throughout high school and college. He graduated from Belton High School, and with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Missouri. Gale served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, and spent his entire professional career with the University of Missouri, starting as a purchasing agent at the Columbia campus and retiring in 2000 as Assistant Dean for Business Affairs, UMKC Dental School, after 42 years with the university.
Gale liked horseback riding, working on his farm, and boating with his family at the Lake of the Ozarks. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and he was an active member of his church. After he retired, Gale and his wife Joyce traveled around the country in an RV, taking many notable trips, including along the Alaskan Highway into Canada and Alaska, and on a train caravan deep into Mexico.
Gale is preceded in death by his parents, G.C. and Katharine (Hockaday) Hankins, and by Joyce (Spiry), his wife of 65 years. He is survived by three children Bill (Angela), Jim, and Crystal, and many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
A visitation and service will be held Thursday, October 3 starting at 10am at Lord of Love Lutheran Church, 8306 S. 171st St., Belton, MO 64012, with interment at 12pm in the Belton Cemetery, 710 S. Scott Ave., Belton, MO 64012.
