It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Paul Underwood of Twin Peaks, San Francisco on February 9, 2019 from natural causes. Paul was born December 7, 1947 and was raised in Michigan. He graduated from Oakland University with a B.S. in 1969 and with a M.A. in 1972 from the University of Michigan. Paul relocated to San Francisco in 1984 and fondly referred to it as his “home city”. One of his favorite activities was to watch the sunset’s beautiful “paintings” from his living room windows most every evening. Paul was held in high esteem from friends, family, and colleagues alike. He served as a Supervising Librarian for the San Jose Pubic Library, Director of Library Services for the San Mateo Library, and finally as the Assistant City Librarian in San Francisco. Upon his retirement in April 2006, Paul was recognized and honored by the San Francisco Public Library Commission for his “high ideals of professional achievement, personal character and public service leadership”. Paul married his soulmate Ronald Gorman on June 18, 2008. Together they shared many wonderful, joyful and humorous times of their lives. Sadly, Ron preceded Paul in death on October 24, 2014. Paul is survived by his three stepchildren and five step grandchildren, a brother, a brother-in-law, and his innumerable friends through California and beyond as well as his beloved cats, BJ and Ted. Per his request, Paul and Ron’s ashes will be scattered together by the Neptune Society in San Francisco Bay at a date yet to be determined.
