Donald James McFarland

Donald James McFarland, age 84 passed away peacefully on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 11:57pm in San Mateo, CA. He was born in San Francisco to Howard and Juanita McFarland on July 5, 1935. He graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco. Don married Rose Schneider, his wife of 52 years, on March 17, 1967. He enjoyed his career as a Real Estate Manager/Broker for over 50 years with several prominent real estate firms. He was a jack of all trades and had a wonderful knack for problem solving. He was a diehard San Francisco 49ers, Giants and Warriors fan. He had a passion for American muscle cars, especially his 1965 mustang, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was ever present in their lives, especially his grandchildren’s events always with video camera in hand.

Don is preceded in death by Howard McFarland (father), Juanita Alcorn (mother), Howard McFarland (brother) and William McFarland (brother).

Don is survived by his wife Rose McFarland. His children: Steve McFarland, Debbie Deuschel, Terri Stewart, Traci Carrithers and his son-in-laws Larry Deuschel, Shannon Carrithers, and his 6 Grandchildren: James McFarland, Jessica Donovan, Clayton Deuschel, Cole Carrithers, Benjamin Carrithers, Mitchell Stewart, Matthew Stewart and his great-granddaughter Brielle Miller. He isalso survived by his sister, Sharon Leckbee and his brother, Raymond McFarland.

Family and friends are invited to attend the following Celebration of Life gatherings:

Rosary will be held on Wednesday, January 8th at 7:30pm at Neptune Society, 1645 El Camino Real, Belmont, CA.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 9th at 10:30am at St. Gregory Catholic Church located at 2715 Hacienda Street, San Mateo with Father Oliver presiding. Luncheon and reception to immediately follow.

There will be a private family service to scatter Don’s ashes out to sea on Friday, January 10th.
