Wayne Eugene Patton, born February 15, 1943, passed away March 14, 2017 at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Angela; 4 children, Mark, Brenda, Lorie, and Joanna; 10 grandchildren, Anthony, Mark Jr., Heavenly, Bruce, Savannah, Fernando Jr., Marissa, Emma, Marina, and Aiden; and one great grandson, Greyson. Wayne is also survived by three dearly loved sisters, Juanita, Peggy, and Deborah.
Wayne joined the Navy right out of school and served during the Vietnam conflict. He enjoyed traveling the world on the aircraft carrier and meeting new people. During his service to his country, he was on the Navy bowling team. Poisoned during his tour, Wayne was hospitalized and released on a medical discharge.
Wayne enjoyed gardening and fishing, and was an avid walker until prevented by illness. Wayne was a talented illustrator of animals and had a unique writing style that slanted to the left. Wayne had an insatiable curiosity and was always reading up on subjects of interest, especially gardening and science. He had perfected his own technique of splicing fruit trees. In his later years, following retirement, he became quite knowledgeable about the stock market. Although he mostly liked factual entertainment, such as the history channel, Wayne enjoyed watching black and white movies with Angela.
Wayne had a sharp wit and quick humor, often delivering his jokes in a serious and dry manner. The appreciation of a smart joke is a cherished trait he passed on to his family. He loved to talk to people and could talk to anybody about anything.
Wayne was very kind and had a big heart. He was generous and would give away his belongings if he felt it made someone else happier. His children and grandchildren were a source of joy and pride. He would always ask who was coming for a visit each day, and would light up and become energized by the little ones. He would plan and cook meals for the family.
Remembered as a giant of a man by his family, Wayne's passing has left a giant loss that will forever be felt by all who love him.
