Maria Del Pilar Gutierrez was a modest woman, quiet and observant in her ways. She was trustworthy and traditional in her approach to her life and in her relationships. She was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude that earned the respect of all who knew her. She was also a woman who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything she undertook. Realistic about life, she was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility.
Maria Del Pilar was born on October 6, 1925 at Pegueros, Jalisco, Mexico in Pegueros, Jalisco, Mexico. She was the daughter of Maria and Canuto Gutierrez. Maria Del Pilar grew up in Pegueros, Jalisco, Mexico.
Maria Del Pilar was raised with seven siblings. She was the youngest of seven. Her siblings were Jesus, Juan, Carmen, Matiana, Concha, Jose, and Andres. Maria Del Pilar was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young girl, Maria Del Pilar had a number of interests. Like most children, she enjoyed playing and making up games. She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. She enjoyed exploring her surroundings, liked hiking and observing insects and small animals. However, to Maria Del Pilar, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with her friends.
Maria Del Pilar worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Maria Del Pilar was blessed with one child, Raquel Gutierrez (Busani). Another blessing for Maria Del Pilar was the gift of two grandchildren, Raquel Monique Busani, Andy Hilario Busani.
Fortunately, Maria Del Pilar enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Maria Del Pilar worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Nursing. She was a nurse in Mexico serving her community, the soldiers her entered her town, and assisting the Mexican Red Cross. Maria Del Pilar always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Maria Del Pilar enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were knitting, reading, and as a young adult designing and making her own clothes and shoes. Throughout her life she enjoyed volunteering at hospitals and nursing homes. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.
Throughout her life, Maria Del Pilar was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout her later years, Maria Del Pilar was an active member of the Club Pegueros.
Maria Del Pilar’s faith was important to her. She was a member of the Church of Immaculate Conception for 40 years. During that time, she was a catechism teacher during the 1970s.
Though she never set out to gain individual recognition, Maria Del Pilar was given accolades for her many and varied accomplishments throughout her life. Some of her most prestigious awards included various recognitions for her volunteer efforts with the Red Cross and hospitals.
Maria Del Pilar was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of her favorites was She has had various pets throughout her life, from birds and turtles, to cats and dogs. She loved each one dearly.
When Maria Del Pilar’s retirement finally arrived in After her stroke in 1990., she was well prepared. Even in retirement, Maria Del Pilar continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Maria Del Pilar was active in her new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered her.
Maria Del Pilar passed away on November 11, 2010 at Downey Regional Medical Center. After two years of inexplicable abdominal bleeding, she was operated from a strangulated hernia and although the operation was a success, she died of complications 3 weeks later. She is survived by her daughter Raquel, her son-in-law Hilario, and her grandchildren Andy and Monique. Services were held at Immaculate Conception Church.
Simply stated, Maria Del Pilar was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Maria Del Pilar leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Maria Del Pilar Gutierrez.
