Born on June 2, 1943 in Lynwood, California, to Alfred and Mary Frances Dunham, Jane resided in Inglewood until her family moved to Downey in 1957, where she attended Pius X High School and graduated in 1961.
Jane worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, most of those at the Bellflower branch, where she made lifelong friends, worked her fingers to the bone, and cooked delicious food for every potluck, until her long awaited and well deserved retirement.
Jane loved taking care of all of her furry friends; drinking coffee and reading the Obituaries in the newspaper; playing Canasta; watching Dodger baseball games, Price Is Right & Wheel of Fortune; growing zucchini, squash & tomatoes; cooking and baking; attending her childrens’ sporting and school events; spending time with her grandchildren; and keeping tabs on all of her neighbors from her corner home which she humorously referred to as “spy corner.”
Jane is survived by her three children: Karen (Stas) Melcarek; Donald (Misty) Weller; and Christina (Peter) Hernandez; daughter-in-law Claire; her ten beloved grandchildren: Matthew, Taylor, Amy, Sarah, Benjamin, Kyle, Michael, Kaitlynn, Lauren and Alyssa; her three zany sisters who were her lifelong best friends: Anne Chamberlain of Nevada, Margaret Cook of Oregon, and Marie (Gary) Wendte of Kansas; numerous very special nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and cousins whom she cherished.
Jane was preceded in death by her eldest son Richard (Rick) John Weller in 2015, whom she often lovingly referred to as, “Tricky Ricky,” because of his crazy antics. She was secretly tickled by the things he did, (most of them anyway), and said that he reminded her of herself. It’s safe to say that both little devils are happily reunited again and now sporting Angel Wings in Heaven.
Gravesite Service and Burial will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary in Whittier, at 11 A.M on Friday November 15, 2019. Pastor Duane will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be: Donald Weller,
Benjamin Weller, Peter Hernandez, Michael Hernandez, Stas Melcarek, and Matthew Melcarek.
Visitation will be held at Whites Funeral Home, 9903 East Flower Street, Bellflower, from 4-8 PM on Thursday November 14, 2019.
