Bobbie went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 23, 2011. She was 95 years of age and will be missed by all who knew her. She was young at heart and spread joy to those around her.
Born Barbara Hamstra, on June 14, 1916, in Friesland, Netherlands, she was the only child of Mike and Tilly Hamstra. Bobbie was a Bellflower resident for over 70 years, and a life-long devoted member of Emmanuel Church. She was a faithful member of the church choir for 65 years.
In 1938 she married Herman Van Leeuwen, who preceded her in death in 1994. Bobbie enjoyed living in her own home until 2009 when she moved to the Artesia Christian Home.
Bobbie deeply loved her family and she is survived by her daughter Thelma (Tom), sons Milton (Celyn) and Dennis (Yvonne), ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at White's Funeral Home in Bellflower, on Thursday from 4-8pm, with a Celebration of Life at 12:00 noon on Friday at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Paramount.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either Artesia Christian Home or the Seminary/Intern program at Emmanuel Reformed Church.
