Yu-Chin was born on Feb. 20, 1959 to Chi-Ou Liu and Shu-Shen Liu in Taipei, Taiwan. When he was five years old, he and his family moved to Libya where he attended Italian Catholic School and English prep school until he was twelve years old. In 1971, the family moved to New York City where he attended Bronx High School of Science. He graduated Magna cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from Yale University in 1980, and obtained his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in 1984. Yu-Chin completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the UCLA-San Fernando Valley Program. In 1987 he was board certified in Internal Medicine.
Yu-Chin married artist/filmmaker Claire Pei in 1989, and they welcomed their beloved daughter Christie in 1990.
From 1988-1996, Yu-Chin had a solo practice in Torrance, California. While there, he was an active member of the Asian American Physician Association and was the Chair of Medical Education and Scholarship Committees. In 2000, he and his family moved to Bellevue, WA and he was an internist at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, WA. He later opened his solo practice in Bellevue WA from 2001-2008. Prior to his retirement, he worked in Hawaii and in Shanghai, China. Throughout his entire career Yu-Chin was a responsible and caring doctor, well-liked by his patients.
Yu-Chin was an avid golfer, an aficionado of classical music, and a devoted husband and father to his family. He and Claire divorced in 2017, but remained bonded in the welfare and nurturing of their daughter. He was predeceased by his parents Chi-Ou Liu and Shu-Shen Liu. He is survived by his daughter Christie and his former wife Claire Pei. He also leaves behind his sisters Ying-Ying (Vincent) and Tina (Dan), as well as nieces Naomi and Rebecca. He also leaves behind many uncles, aunts and cousins.
We will all miss Yu-Chin very much. A memorial for family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 1:30 pm at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue, WA.
