Wen Shong "Spike" LAI Born September 5, 1940 in Taichung, Taiwan, Wen Shong "Spike" Lai, 69, passed away suddenly and peacefully on July 26, 2010. Emigrating from Taiwan in 1967, he earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil and structural engineering from the University of Washington, establishing his own practice and eventually working for Boeing as a Facilities Engineer. Wen Shong greatly enjoyed tending to his koi pond and yard at the Bellevue home where he and his wife raised their three daughters and being a prominent member of the Taiwanese community in Seattle. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pi Chu "Margaret", daughters Joanne, Marian, and Lillian, sisters Lu-Mei "Shirley" Wu and Mei H. "Judy" Wu, brothers Wen Shian Lai and Wen Zie Lai, nephews, nieces, his American host family The Johnstons, and countless friends. Memorial service will be on Saturday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1215 145th Place SE, Bellevue, WA 98007
