Robert John Mason died Aug. 2, 2010 due to complications from Lewy Body Disease. He was born in Wisconsin Dells, WI on September 26, 1925. He attended Michigan Institute of Mining and Technology his freshman year, but soon was called to the Army during the height of WWII. He was in the 83rd Infantry in Germany under George Patton’s Command, and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war he went to the University of Wisconsin on the GI Bill where he earned a BA in Economics. While attending college, he met the love of his life JoAnn Lindemann. They married on May 19, 1950, had two daughters and settled in Kansas City. He worked in the insurance industry until 1975 when he moved his family to Bellevue to open Medical Personnel Pool of Seattle. JoAnn and Bob worked tirelessly to successfully grow their franchise to include Personnel Pool of Seattle and Portland.
Bob enjoyed the outdoors tremendously, and spent countless hours hunting, fishing, golfing and boating. Bob’s passion for the outdoors led him to live in Idaho, Montana, and Arizona where he was able to fish, hunt and golf to his heart’s content. Bob was a member of Overlake Golf and Country Club for many years, where he could always be found perfecting his swing.
In July 2008, Bob returned to Bellevue where he spent his last years surrounded by his loving family. Bob’s faith in Jesus Christ was renewed as he faithfully attended First Presbyterian of Bellevue’s Modern Worship Service, sitting in the front row in his wheelchair, week after week, until he was unable to go. Thank you to those of you whose kindness was felt by Bob.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, JoAnn Mason. He is survived by his daughters Marilyn (Robert) Bobbitt of Independence, MO and Pam (Marty) Vowels of Bellevue, WA. Grandchildren Stephen (Whitney) Bobbitt of Blue Springs, MO. Kristin Bobbitt, of Kansas City, MO. Michael Bobbitt, Lauren Bobbitt, Katie Bobbitt, all of Independence, MO. Lindsay (Jed) Miller, and Erin (Brent) Douma, of Bellevue, WA and Kaitlyn Vowels of Venice, CA. Great-grandchildren Asher Miller and Peter Douma of Bellevue, WA.
Thank you to all of his caregivers over the last several years, who compassionately cared for Bob both in Arizona and in Bellevue. Your kindness will always be remembered.
Arrangements under the direction of Sunset Hills Funeral Home, Bellevue, WA.
