It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our beloved son, Matthew Evan Fox, who departed from this world far too soon on June 19, 2023. At the tender age of 22, Matthew is already deeply missed by his grieving parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, countless cousins, friends, and his beloved cat, Earl. We can only take comfort in our fond memories of Matthew, his radiant smile, and the laughter and joy he brought to those who knew him.
Matthew brought great happiness to our lives from the moment he entered this world. As an infant, he was an adorable baby with a head full of dark hair and a sweet smile. As a young boy, Matthew enjoyed assembling Lego sets with his family, playing with his best friend Jaden, going on road trips, camping adventures, and yearly vacations to Wapato Point at Lake Chelan. He always looked up to and wanted to tag along with his big brother, Josh, and his big sister, Haley, who would always take Matthew under their wing on new adventures.
Matthew found his passion for video games at age seven, writing in his Family Treasures Photo Album, "I like to play my X box and my lego Star Wars Complete Saga game." As he transitioned into his young teen years, Matthew found that this medium allowed him to explore new worlds, forge friendships online and in person, and unleash his creativity by building new digital lands with friends and family.
Matthew was a full-time Bellevue College student pursuing his Bachelor of Applied Science in Software Development degree. However, his favorite classes focused on learning Japanese and everything he could about Japanese culture. He dreamed of visiting Japan and planned on studying there when his health improved.
We often referred to Matthew as our "animal-whisperer," as he found great delight in spending time with pets and animals of all types, understanding their unique personalities, and forging deep connections with them. His empathy and gentle nature allowed him to communicate with animals as kindred spirits. Matthew cherished every moment spent in their company, finding comfort and friendship in their presence.
One of Matthew's favorite pastimes was venturing to the local trails and hiking paths, where he found peace and tranquility amidst the lush greenery of the Pacific Northwest. Matthew always looked forward to these outings where he would reflect on all matters, both great and small. The tranquility of nature and the wildlife he found there rejuvenated his spirit, always bringing him home with a renewed sense of peace and happiness.
As we navigate this profound loss, we find solace in the memories we shared with Matthew. His quick wit, passion for video games, deep kindness and love for animals, and tireless enthusiasm for exploring the great outdoors will forever be etched in our hearts. Though his time with us was sadly cut short, his impact on our lives and the memories we created together will endure. Rest in peace, dearest Matthew. You will forever be remembered and cherished in our hearts.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on July 14, 2023, at Sunset Hills Memorial, where we will come together to celebrate Matthew's life and share cherished memories. We ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Matthew's honor to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
