Mason was born April 24, 1982, in Lincoln Nebraska. He married Brynn McCulloch in 2004 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lincoln, NE, and she survives.
He was preceded in death by his brother Taylor Ullrich and his Mother-in-Law Alysia McCulloch.
He graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in May of 2004 and Commissioned in the United States Air Force in June that same year. Mason was looking forward to retiring this April after serving twenty years as a United States Air Force Pilot.
Lieutenant Colonel Mason R. Ullrich was more lovingly known as “Otter” by those who worked with him. While he absolutely loved flying planes, his favorite part of his job was supporting and advocating for his airmen. He proudly lived as an example of “be the change you want to see,” never accepting mediocrity. His board at work reminded everyone that, “convenience is not an excuse.”
His love for his family, especially his niece and nephew, will live on forever. He would patiently answer all of their airplane questions, film goofy videos for their birthdays, and he made sure they understood the Thunderbirds are far superior to the Blue Angels.
Most of all, he loved spending 20 years with his partner-in-crime, Brynn. Together they enjoyed big adventures and small adventures, most of which were legal. Mason often remarked to his colleagues about her selflessness and resiliency as an Air Force spouse, and was looking forward to starting a hobby farm together after retiring.
His life was not nearly long enough, and he and his sarcastic wit will be deeply missed.
There will be a private memorial and burial at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, in Bellevue, Washington. If you would like to participate in honoring Mason from afar, raise your glasses at 6:00pm PST, January 5, 2025.
