Daughter of Arturo Romaguera Diaz and Maria Mercedes Pont Flores Romaguera. She grew up in Puerto Rico with her sibling Milagros Nazario, Isabel Bonazzo and Arturo Romaguera. When she was 13 the family moved to Cali, Columbia where her youngest sister Teresita Rodriguez was born. She moved back to Puerto Rico after she graduated from Mater Misericordiae High School in Pennsylvania.
Mercedes met the love of her life, Stanley Swanson, at a family Christmas Eve party when he was the guest of her brother-in-law. They married one year later on Christmas Eve and began their love story. Stanley’s work brought them first to Brussels and then back to San Juan where their first daughter Elizabeth Ann was born. Another career move brought them to the Woodridge neighborhood in Bellevue where sons Arthur Curtis and John Frederick arrived.
Mercedes was a busy mother of 3, active in the Sacred Heart Parish Grief Ministry and Guilds.
Most recently Mercedes resided at the Evergreen Adult Family Home in North Seattle and Ida Culver in Ravenna.
Mercedes leaves behind her devoted children Elizabeth and Craig, Arthur and Beth, and John; Grandchildren John, Grace, Audrey, Isabel and Emelia and her siblings Milagros, Arturo and Teresita.
Mercedes did ordinary things in extraordinary ways. She was a woman of great faith who recognized the grace of God even in the most tragic of circumstances.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, grandson Nathan and her sister Isabel.
The Funeral Mass for Maria Mercedes Swanson will be held on Monday, March 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Seattle. The rosary will be said in the chapel there beforehand, starting at 10:15 a.m. Immediately following the Mass, there will be a luncheon reception in the church hall.
There will be a burial procession from the church to the cemetery. The cemetery service will be at 2:30.
