Margaret Mae Courter passed away on June 20, 2017 at age 94. She was born in Tacoma, Washington on March 1, 1923 to George and Lida Lenore McKay. She was raised for a time in Tacoma and then the family moved to Seattle where she attended Lincoln High School graduating in 1941. For a time, she owned a small grocery store on Aurora Avenue and then worked at an investigative firm in Seattle where she met Allen J Courter. They were married in 1946 and had three children, making a life in Bellevue and later moving to Auburn, Washington. She and her husband owned Auburn Buick Center. Her Professional career was wide and diverse. It included selling real estate for Armstrong Homes in Auburn, Her next Job was at Boeing. From there she became an administrative assistant with the Hendrick Law Firm in Seattle. Her next job was at Peoples Bank where she worked in the trust department. Her last job was at Honda of Kirkland, where she was a file clerk and a courtesy driver. She made life-long friends at every job she had.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading books and playing Scrabble, Yahtzee and cards, but her greatest role in life was being a mother and grandmother, where she excelled. She made everyone she came in contact with feel special. She was a warm, kind human being that loved people.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Alllen, and sisters Blanche and Georgia. She is survived by her children Allen (Linda), John, Carole (Bill Fitchitt); grandchildren Carrie, Kelly, Jason, Joshua and seven great-grandchildren: Hunter, Maxwell, Jackson, Ashley, Hanley, Katherine, Grace.
Margaret was a woman of faith and a friend to all she met and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Court where Margaret lived for several years and also special thanks to Becky and Bogden Lungulescu and Anna and Daniel Lungulescu who cared for and comforted Margaret this past year.
The family has established the Margaret Courter Scholarship at Bellevue College. This scholarship will benefit women returning to the work force who have engaged help through the Bellevue College Woman’s Center.
