Lillian Wan was born on October 4, 1937 in Shanghai, China. She emigrated to the US in 1961 from Taiwan, where she worked as a pharmacist, and received an M.S. in biochemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was an accomplished scientist at the University of North Carolina and the University of Michigan before devoting her time to raising her family. She lived in New Jersey for 40 years before moving to the Pacific Northwest.
Lillian had a passion and talent for arts and crafts and was a wonderful cook. She was an accomplished painter, knitter and embroiderer who took up swimming to ease her severe and lifelong arthritis pain. She will especially be remembered for her intelligence, meticulous math skills, no-nonsense attitude, incredible tolerance for pain, and devotion to her family, friends and pet cats.
Lillian is survived by her husband Anthony of Redmond, WA, her daughter Deborah of New York, NY, her daughter Catherine of Seattle, WA, her son-in-law Frank O’Connor of Seattle, WA, her granddaughter Isla O’Connor-Lu of Seattle, WA, her sister Donna Yu of Taipei, Taiwan, her sister-in-law Nancy Wan of Oakland, CA and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Sunset Hills Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Bellevue at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested either to the Benevolence Fund at Emerald Heights or the Arthritis Foundation.
