Joan Audrey FitzGerald was born March 13th, 1929 in Portsmouth, England. She passed away peacefully the morning of December 26th, 2014. Joan spent her youth and young adulthood in England, serving in the Woman’s Royal Navy Service as an airplane mechanic. She moved to Montreal, Canada in 1957 with her family, before finally settling in Seattle in 1959. She was a homemaker until her children were raised, then she worked as a teacher's aide at Kirkland Junior High and as an insurance claims adjuster on Mercer Island. In 1994 she retired, enjoying her time with grandchildren, cooking, gardening, reading, and traveling, until the onset of dementia became too overwhelming for her. Joan was a gentle and loving mom, grandma, and friend to many, and will be sorely missed. Joan was preceded in death by her daughter Lynda and great granddaughter Isabell. She is survived by sons Colin and Kevin and daughters Shelagh and Jean, sister Barbara Grey, eleven grandchildren (John, Michael, Michelle, Audrey, Caileigh, Lauren, Ava, Steven, Sara, Spencer, Sawyer), and one great grandchild Aurora.
