Janice Carol Watson passed away on May 29, 2019 at age 95 following a lengthy illness. She will be remembered together with her husband, William Arthur Watson, as offering insurance and tax services in the Hillman District of Rainier Valley for a period of over thirty years.
Born in Tacoma, WA on January 26, 1924, the daughter of Richard Ora and Clara Bell Gilbert, she attended local schools, loving music and history. When the depth of the Great Depression and the death of her father made continuing professionally with these fields impossible, she turned her talents to more assessable training, pursuing a career through business studies, and in doing so, gaining a masterful capability in leadership and investment strategies. She subsequently served as president or district director of several business and professional organizations. Janice has been especially honored Business Person of the Year, Rainier District/NSBPW.
Her interest in genealogy, sparked by pre-American Revolutionary entries in the family bible, spurred her research. Evidence she documented established forbearers qualifying her membership as Hartford founding members and a descendent of Colonial Dames, NSDAR.
In all of her work, Janice set for herself a high standard in neatness and precision. No correspondence left her desk with facts unsubstantiated, or detail not precise.
Janice was a member and supporter of the First United Methodist Church. Janice was preceded in death by her husband, William. Her survivors include her sister, L. Bell Hawk; nephews, Malcolm and Duncan McClinton; daughter-in-law, Shirley Marton Watson; and great-nephew, Ian McClinton.
