Born May 4, 1919 in Hornel, NY to Mariano and Mary Colamarino. He attended Hornell High School where he was NY State Champion on Coronet in 1936. In 1941 he married Mary Ryan of Portland, OR. He Graduated from Multnomah College and Washington Technical Institute.
He was a First Mate U.S. Mechant Marine and served in U.S. Navy 1937-41 and US Merchant Marine 1941-69. He was a Certified Electronic Technician 1972-1990. He was a Co-Founder of the US Merchant Marine Veterans Organization, and was Instrumental in winning veterans rights for Merchant Mariners.
He resided in Hornel, NY, Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. Survived by Mary Lane (Daughter) and James John Jr. (Son); Katherine Bursett and Celina Armstrong (Granddaughters); Bella and Ciara Armstrong (Great-grandchildren); Connie Rouse, Annie Dantz and Dominic Colamarino (Siblings) he is predeceased by Mary G. Colamarino (wife) June 1997, Nick Colamarino, Rose Dugan, Lucy Kiesnowski, Carmela Simon, and Gloria Johnson
Graveside Service with full military honors to be held Friday March 22nd, 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Hills Memorial Park 1215 145th Place SE, Bellevue, WA 98007. A Reception will follow thereafter at Saint Louise Parish Center at 141 - 156th Ave SE Bellevue, WA Donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
