Harriet had many names - “Sis,” “Daughter,” “Aunt,” “Cousin,” “Niece,” “Mom,” “Chica” (as part of the “Traveling Chicas”); “Hurricane Harriet” from when she was learning how to swim; “Mei Ling” (her given Chinese family name); but the one she would want to be remembered by most is “Grandma.”
Grandma Harriet beamed with joy every time she saw her three grandsons, Ty (27), Ryan (23), and Jack (14). She LOVED being Grandma. Since all three grandsons have been born, she has been watching them grow everyday sometimes minute to minute. She would drop anything to be with them.
Harriet was born on November 30, 1953 in Vallejo, California where she grew up. Her father owned a Chinese grocery store nearby the family home. She and her siblings loved playing in their backyard and visiting the store.
Harriet graduated from University Mound High School, San Francisco, CA in 1972. By 1979, Harriet moved to the Pacific Northwest with her husband and two young children. They resided in Port Orchard, Washington. Harriet worked on the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 7 years from 1980-1987. She met her best friend there, Annie McDowell. Harriet then transitioned to work in the Greater Seattle legal community as a Legal Administrator for thirty-two years.
As a single mother of two, Julie and Lamarr fondly remember their mom being a great cook and how she always made their birthdays and holidays extra special. She really enjoyed being a mother.
She also loved traveling. She took many trips with the “Traveling Chicas!” They are a group of six women (including her sister, Bettiet) from all walks of life that traveled to Mexico, Alaska, California and beyond.
Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, Harry Shew Fong and Elisabeth Fong Stewart formerly Bansuelo; her two half-brothers Richard Fong (Genevieve) and Glenn Stewart; her cousin Mike Tirona (Pat); and her Auntie Connie Tirona formerly Bansuelo (Uncle Angel – Deceased).
She is survived by the following family members: her two children, daughter, Julie Keller, and son, Lamarr Wright Jr; her three grandsons, Ty Wright, Ryan Wright, and Jackson Keller; her siblings: brother, Phillip Fong (Eva), brother, Edmond Fong (Joan-deceased), sister, Bettiet Hayes, half-brother, Robert Johnson, half-sister, Lora Sherman formerly Stewart, half-sister, Elisabeth Gordon formerly Stewart; her Uncle, Charlie Bansuelo (Auntie Flo), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins she dearly loved.
Harriet will be buried this summer in the beautiful waterfall gardens at Sunset Hills Memorial Park at 1215 145th Pl SE, Bellevue, WA 98007. She chose to be close to family and friends she will dearly miss.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mission Healthcare of Bellevue. There are truly no words that can express the immense gratitude for the incredible care they gave Harriet the last two plus years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to a local organization that feeds children. Harriet often prayed and donated money to feed the children of the world.
