Born in Anhui province in 1928, the youngest of four brothers, George served as an interpreter for the U.S. Army during the Korean War and graduated from National Taiwan University. Christian missionaries from Yakima, Washington sponsored him and his intelligent and beautiful wife Elise to immigrate in 1958 to Seattle. George worked for decades as a civil engineer in the Seattle area before retiring in the 1990s.
George enjoyed listening to and performing Beijing (Peking) Opera, tending to his garden, especially the roses, and hosting with Elise in their Bellevue home for family events, opera gatherings and Bible study groups. His special recipe for green onion pancakes was the best! During his time in assisted living, he loved bean bag baseball, always was the first to arrive to set things up, and was the team captain.
George’s family and friends will dearly miss him for his warm smile and enthusiasm for activities. After celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, Elise passed in 2019. George is survived by his daughter Silvia Juel and son-in-law Chris Juel, his son Doug Chin, and his grandchildren, Derek (and June) Juel, Sean Juel, Tim Juel, Fionx Chin, and Ian Chin.
The family respectfully requests any gifts be donated in memory of George Chin to Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org (specify Washington State Chapter)"
