Alfredo “Fred” Ungco Tuazon, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 in Bellevue, Washington, surrounded by loved ones after a 10+ year battle with dementia.
Fred was born on December 20, 1946 to Artemio Borja Tuazon and Cecilia Ungco Tuazon in Pateros, Metro Manila, Philippines. After graduating from San Beda High School in 1962, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from De La Salle University in 1967 in Manila.
In 1968, Fred married his college sweetheart, Cristy, and together they immigrated to Seattle, Washington for The Boeing Company, who recruited him to join as a Design Engineer in their 747 program. Fred and Cristy eventually put down roots in the Bellevue area, where they raised their three children, Eric, Karen, and Annie.
After nearly ten years in aerospace and having earned his MBA from Seattle University, Fred moved on to build a successful 25-year sales career in the process control and field instrumentation industry. Working his way through the ranks, he started as a field sales engineer at Honeywell, then went on to manage branch offices and territories for several national and international firms until he retired as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Yamatake Honeywell. Fred enjoyed his work, particularly due to the wonderful friendships he developed, many of which spanned 40+ years. He traveled for business regularly, maintaining his frequent flyer status as he racked up miles commuting across the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Japan, and beyond.
With his technical and business acumen, Fred's passion outside of corporate life included owning and managing investment properties, which continued into his “retirement”, operating a 39-unit apartment complex. Fred tirelessly maintained and improved both his home and his rental properties. Nevertheless, he always made time for his family first, whether it be taking his grandchildren to the park or McDonalds, joining them on camping trips, or firing up the grill for Sunday family dinners. Fred enjoyed taking his ever-growing family on vacations, especially flying to Hawaii and Sedona and cruising ports of call in Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean. His favorite destination was back home to Manila to visit his parents, family and friends.
Fred was known for his wide toothy grin and his infectious laugh, both seen and heard often when he was catching up with his former classmates and his closest, oldest friends. He was a dedicated Catholic, attending daily mass, serving as a lector and usher at Saint Louise Church, and singing in the choir at Saint Madeleine Sophie Church. Fred was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather “Lolo” who lived and taught by example the values of hard work, family, and placing his faith in God above all things.
Fred was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Cristina Aquino. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Cristy, and his three children and their spouses: Eric (Emily), Karen (John) and Annie (Vinh). He leaves behind four siblings: Ador, Arsenio, Jose, and Artemio Jr. Fred’s legacy lives on through his eight grandchildren: David, Ben, Dylan, Martin, Lily, Ian, Asa, and Finn.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fred’s memory to Saint Louise or Saint Madeleine Sophie Church. Friends are encouraged to share their memories and sign the family’s online guest book at www.dignitymemorial.com.
