Dorothy was born in Spokane, WA on May 17th, 1932. She was raised in Spokane by her parents George and Cleo Swank, graduated from North Central High School in 1950, and worked as a Service Representative for Washington Water Power. She married her high school sweetheart John Derald Johnson in 1953 and moved to California and Georgia before he was deployed as an Army Officer to Korea 1955. They made their home in the Spokane Valley where they resided until 1970 when they moved to Bellevue, WA where she lived until her passing.
Following the unexpected passing of her husband in 1973, Dorothy worked 18 years at Ryerson Steel Co. in Seattle in Sales Administration and retired in 1991. She was active in the Overlake Service League, Bellevue Women’s Club, The Eastside YMCA, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, and enjoyed golf & watching sporting events. She was also a very caring grandmother of 5 grandchildren and attended many of their high school and college events.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents George & Cleo Swank and sister Norma Lea Borden. She is survived by her son Doug Johnson of Tahoma, CA and daughter Sheri McConnaughey and her husband Tom of Federal Way, WA. She has 5 grandchildren: Kasi Smith, Donny McConnaughey, Jaimee Johnson, Monica McConnaughey, and Trent Johnson. She also has one great grandson Dash Smith.
A Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Hills in Bellevue WA, at 12:30 PM on Tuesday May 28th followed by a Celebration of Life at Robinswood Park in Bellevue. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Bellevue LifeSpring (formerly Overlake Service League) in Bellevue, WA
