Dale V. Lee

Dale V. Lee: husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and American Hero competed his life’s journey at 2:10 pm on May 18, 2010. He will be laid to rest beside his wife and life partner of 55 years on Friday, May 28 at 1:30 pm at Sunset Hills Memorial park, 1215 145th Place SE in Bellevue. These services will be conducted under the love and care of his family and with full military honors. Friends and family are encouraged to joins us in wishing Dad a final farewell and safe journey to his final destination.

Dale Lee was born on June 29, 1920 to the Iver and Anna Lee in Albion, Nebraska. He was loved and is survived by his 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Alice Nore Lee, in 2002. He was a self-made millionaire rising from the poverty of his Nebraska farm to be become one of the top-rated privately owned/operated dairy farms in Washington State. He retired from the intense work of the dairy business and cattle investing to Sun Lakes, Arizona 20 years ago.

Dale joined the Army Air Corps during the start of World War II and was assigned to the 44th Bomb Group. Sgt Lee served as Flight Engineer & Waist Gunner on the B-24 J. He completed 11 bombing mission, including the Ploesti Raid and he was eventually shot down over Foggia Italy. He was captured by the Axis powers and held in a Nazi prison camp. After 3 months of captivity, he escaped and spent weeks travelling 300 miles on foot back to Allied territory. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster,

Ploesti Presidential Citation, French Legion of Merit, the Good Conduct Medal, among others.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Infant Survival & SIDS Alliance in Seattle or the charity of your choice.
