Connie is a very strong soul.  Always quick with a giggle and a twinkle.  Connie is a lover of the very new as well as the very old.  She relished in finding a book of poetry written by a distant ancestor as well as sharing a joke by e-mail.  Connie is a lover of life and a teacher of how to live it with a flourish.  She will be remembered with much love.

Dear Jim, Children, Family and friends

Constance Agnes van NES

I would like to talk as a voice from the country of origin of the van NES family. Connie was the grandchild of Thomas Nicolaas van NES who emigrated from Holland in 1907, three years after his brother Johan Christiaan. My grandfather was his brother Willem Aert.
Hence Connie and I are rear cousins! For more than hundred years the Canada – Holland ties were maintained. I am unfortunately one of the last of the Dutch branch, my son has no children and there is only one more Aert van NES in Holland, the son of my cousin. 
In 1991 we met the first time when Connie traveled to our home in Switzerland. We had some nice moments together and it didn’t feel strange, as if we had known each other for years. Family ties must have been the reason. We were very pleased to have Connie under our roof albeit for only a few days.
Now she is gone, and we will not hear her Christmas poems anymore. There was always a worried mouse in her house at Christmas time.
To her children I would say:”you are only now really grown up, no more mama to look after you.” This was what our family doctor, who brought me in this world, said when I lost my last parent.
Eva and I would like to send you our heartfelt condolences, and wish you great courage as life goes on!

From Calgary, we send our deepest condolences to Linda, Kathy, Cindy, John, Pam, Lucy and  your famlies. And to Jim, I wish we'd had the chance to meet. 
Although time and distance over the years has made it difficult to stop by for visits, please know that we think of  you often,  even more so now. I'll always remember Auntie Connie's jokes. She always had one. And they were always corny. I was a kid, and I loved them. I'm smiling now, and I'm sure she's looking down on me, wishing she could tell me anther one. Some day she will. She had a special place in my heart, my "American" aunt, and always will. God bless.

My sympathy goes out to Connie's family and companion Jim.  Connie and I enjoyed many cups of tea together and lots of laughs.  I will miss her wise counsel and friendship.

Connie had a gentle, generous and loving heart. She had a keen sense of humor and a twinkling eye to go with it. She loved and lived life to the fullest. She was an inspiration to all. Rest in Peace, Con!

Connie was a bright light in a dim world. Her humor never failed to crack a smile. I celebrate her life and thank our Lord that her life's path crossed mine.

I am very saddened to learn of Connie's passing.  My sincere sympathy to all of the family.

What a marvelous description of your Mom, my Sister. She was a very gifted lady in everything she did or wrote.I am so proud of my sister and shall miss talking on the phone with her.The 250 miles apart that we were never stopped our closeness.
