Carol came into our lives when Kelly was 2, and adopted Helen as a sister at daycare.  I will always treasure the unique relationship I had with Carol as co-mom to both of them for so many years.  (And no, Kelly, I never did tell her about catching you riding around in the back of that pickup truck with Helen.)  She always took such joy from her family, and I wish for all of them that her memory continues to be a blessing.

I loved Carol very much. She was always cracking a joke with her dry wit, smiling and laughing with her amazing laugh.  I'll never forget it.  She was always family centered and was ready to gather.  The more the merrier.  I can't say enough about Carol in my life except she was a second Mom to me. I will miss her very much and pray for the healing of the family.  Much love to all, Bonnie

Carol Louise has been in my life for 65 years, my entire lifetime. I have so many memories that are worth sharing. However, I feel one of Carol’s most lasting legacies is her enduing and unequivocal love for her family. 

Throughout my life Carol was always there no matter what else was going on. Families constantly change. They adapt. They add members and unfortunately, at times, must say goodbye to some of their most cherished members. Throughout the 65 years I have lived, I have watched to see and watch all of these things unfold. Throughout the 65 years I have lived, Carol was a constant. Always loving. Always accepting of whoever you were at that moment. Always promoting and pushing for family first. Doing all the right thing for all the right reasons. Being the bigger person whenever it was called for and needed. She was a role model and a savior, a saint and a pragmatist. And to many members of our family, she was a lifeline.

I will never forget Carol. The family she helped create is my family. She is one of the 4 corners of this box. A foundational member. A person of great personal accomplishment. She helps define who we are, where we are going, and represents a way forward through her leadership. This leadership set standards and was complex yet nuanced enough for each person’s experience. Because of this, we are who we are today.

I found Carol late in life, just a few years ago. She welcomed me to the family almost immediately. When visiting Seattle the first time with my husband and daughter Amber, I posted a few pictures on Facebook of this beautiful city. Carol saw my pictures and called to see if we could meet up. Pegasus Pizza on Alki beach, was our first meet and greet. She was wonderful, kind and gracious so accepting. Afterwards she brought me over to the McBride childhood home where the four boys grew up, Bobby, Glenn, Doyle and my father David. It was a dream come true, a day I will never forget. Thank you for the gift of family and the opportunity to meet. Wish we had more time. Grateful, Marilyn and family

is Pegasus Pizza. this pic was taken there. we would always get my favorite salad "the Greek" and Dads Pizza, Peperoni w/sunflower seeds. Lots of Birthdays and good family memories

Let me share a story known only to myself and my Aunt Carol. I was too young to remember exactly how old I was, but I remember waking up in the middle of one bewildering night disoriented and terrified. I crawled out of the strange place in which I found myself and wandered into the next room. I made my way into the unfamiliar bedroom and saw the unmistakable face and figure of my mommy and a lump of pillows and blankets next to her that must have been my daddy. “Mommy, Mommy” I cried in a desperate attempt to wake her and remind me that everything was okay. She opened her eyes, hugged me, held me close, and reassured me that I was safe as she carried me back to the mysterious room from which I emerged. She gently kissed my cheek and simply said, “Good night, love you, see you in the morning”. She was there, and that was all I needed to know to fall blissfully back to sleep. It was years later that I realized just how much my mom and my Aunt Carol looked alike. I had already worked out that the memory was from a time I had a sleep-over with my cousins. Yes, of course, it must have been my Aunt Carol who calmed and comforted me that night. She was there. She has been a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie, friend, etc.; a present figure to so many of us who have been touched and inspired by her life. We will never forget you, Aunt Carol, nor the comfort and kindness you brought to everyone around you. You were there. Rest in Peace. Much love and adoration, your nephew, Allen Jr.
