A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church, (22818 SE 8th Street, Sammamish 98074). Pastor John LaMunyon will officiate.
Bruce was a longtime TV sports anchor for Seattle’s KOMO TV beginning in 1968. He began his career in 1960 as a reporter for KEZI in Eugene with stops along the way in San Jose and Los Angeles. After 12 years in Seattle, he left for New York City’s WABC TV before returning to KOMO until he retired in 1999.
During his 30 years at KOMO Bruce was named Washington State sportscaster of the year four times, and was honored as a “Husky Legend” by the University of Washington in 2011. Seattle sports fans will best remember him as host of the Don James Show on Sunday evenings and the Chuck Knox show following Monday Night Football. Bruce was an avid golfer and was a member at Sahalee Country Club for three decades. For 25 years he hosted a benefit tournament for the Federal Way Boys & Girls Club.
Bruce was born July 23, 1934, in Salem, OR and is survived by his wife Bonnie, who he married on November 6, 1965, in Eugene. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Shaw; daughter Karen and her son Bennett; son, Mike and his wife Linda.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Federal Way Boys and Girls Club or Shriners Hospital for Children.
