Bernice Delores Pryor passed away on January 8, 2013 in the loving care of her daughter, Bernadette. She was born in Baltimore Maryland on December 22, 1932 to her proud parents, James and Jennell Booze. Bernice was raised by her Grandmother, Lillie Livview Harris.
Bernice married her love, James Pryor, Jr. whom she met in Detroit, MI while in High School. They were married for 35 years. As a military family, Bernice and James travelled around the world from New York, Texas, Maryland, Taiwan, Germany, Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado and California. She was primarily a stay at home Mom until her divorce when she became the single parent and guardian for her youngest two children, Mechelle and Bernadette. Together the three of them went on many adventures and learned how to take on the world from banking to education and careers. Bernice was a pioneer in the early days of high technology, but her favorite career, involved taking care of children. She always made sure the little ones were dry, happy, and well cared for on her watch. As a parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent, she was overjoyed with the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed travelling, shopping, playing the piano, singing, dancing, cleaning, and people watching.
In life she taught us everything isn’t going to be easy but don’t let that stop you or get you down. Her faith in God was the foundation she passed on to all of her children. Bernice prayed to God every day of her life. She was always willing to share with anyone in need, through her selfless giving of time, feeding the homeless, donating to Jerry’s kids, or sponsoring children from around the world. Bernice often became a mother/grandmother figure to those around her. She would often call young adults her children, and called them son or daughter. Everyone who met her loved her.
Bernice was a strong but humble woman who didn’t realize her God blessed gift of bringing joy to others. She earned the admiration, love, and respect from her family and friends. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing her, and eternally loved by her family.
Bernice is survived by her six children, eleven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
